Defensive tackle D’Marco Farr, who suffered a hyperextended elbow Sunday against the Saints, is expected to be placed on injured reserve today and replaced on the roster by defensive end Jay Williams.

Williams has been working on the Rams’ practice squad.

The Rams thought Wayne Sevier, one of the game’s premier special teams coaches, was going to make the difference in two or three games this season.

What happened was not what they had in mind. Special teams blunders have played a prominent role in three or four of the team’s losses.

“There’s no question about it, I fully accept the fact I haven’t gotten it done on special teams,” Sevier said. “Our special teams haven’t done it and I haven’t been able to communicate and motivate in a way that I normally feel I can do. And that’s my responsibility.”

Ram special teams have allowed four returns for touchdowns, and in the last two games punt returner Todd Kinchen has fumbled the ball away three times.

“I still like these guys and I think you’re going to find out that several of these guys are going to become starters at their positions for the Rams in the future,” Sevier said. “I don’t think our problems are the result of a drop-off in talent.”
