COMPTON : Police to Issue Tickets --for Free Dinners

Share

Motorists stopped by Compton police officers in the next few weeks will not necessarily face bad news. Good drivers who are pulled over will receive tickets that can be redeemed for free dinners.

The program started last week and will continue through most of the month in an effort to make people aware of traffic safety during the holiday season and to improve the Police Department’s public image, Capt. Steve Roller said.

“Usually when drivers get pulled over, it’s for negative things,” Roller said. “We try this time of year to leave a good impression with drivers.”

Officers will still check if the motorists have their seat belts buckled and driver’s licenses handy, Roller said. Police officers who see such violations could rethink the meal tickets and give a standard traffic citation, he said.

The free meal tickets, donated by El Pollo Loco restaurant, can be redeemed before Jan. 15 at the company’s restaurant at 101 E. Compton Blvd.
