Audit Finds Lack of Computer Training
Ventura County spends $5.8 million on computer equipment and personnel each year but provides little training, an audit released Thursday says.
The county’s agencies and departments have made progress at keeping pace with advances in computer technology, providing one personal computer for every three employees, the report by Auditor-Controller Thomas O. Mahon says.
But training on the computers and their software applications has been minimal, the report says. As a result, county employees were not taking advantage of their computers to increase job performance and productivity, according to the audit.
Employees might have the latest software programs, but they often didn’t have the manuals to go with them, Mahon said. The problem was found throughout county departments, he said.
“If we’re going to make all of this investment in the machinery, we should also make an investment in the training,” Mahon said.
