Los Angeles International Airport is listed in a study of airport smoking policies as one of the nation’s five healthiest commercial airfields for travelers, it was announced Thursday.
The other four airports are Minneapolis/St. Paul, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Miami and Seattle-Tacoma.
The airport where travelers are most likely to be exposed to tobacco smoke is Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, according to the survey of the nation’s 25 busiest airports.
It was conducted by the Coalition on Smoking or Health, an organization made up of the American Lung Assn., American Heart Assn. and the American Cancer Society.
“Thousands of California travelers can breathe easier this year,” said Dr. Spencer Koerner, chairman of the American Lung Assn. of California. “Not only will they find that nearly all domestic flights are smoke-free, but most airports are now smoke-free as well.”
In a separate study, the American Lung Assn. of California found that all the major metropolitan airports in the state are smoke-free. Those airports are in San Diego, Orange County, Burbank, San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, Fresno, Ontario and Monterey.
