The Washington Bullets and Chris Webber are getting better acquainted.

The Bullets won for only the second time in the eight games since they acquired Webber in a trade with the Golden State Warriors, outlasting the Dallas Mavericks in overtime, 124-121, on Thursday night at Dallas.

“We really needed this win,” Webber said after leading the Bullets with 23 points and 14 rebounds. “We’re playing a lot more comfortably now that we’re getting to know each other a little better. Some of that showed on the floor tonight.”

Rex Chapman’s 18-foot jumper with 29.3 seconds to play broke a 118-118 tie and Scott Skiles added two free throws with 11.4 seconds left. Webber added a clinching dunk with three seconds to play for a 124-118 advantage before Jamal Mashburn’s three-point basket at the buzzer accounted for the final margin.

Trailing in the second overtime, 114-112, Utah closed to 114-113 with 55 seconds left on Hornacek’s free throw after a foul by Avery Johnson. Hornacek then made two free throws with 28 seconds to play.
