Team Truly Deserving of Recognition
I was very pleased to see your article on a surgical team in action (“Team Players,” Nov. 29). In an age in which professional athletes and movie characters are treated as relatively important role models, I welcome the media coverage of professionals of real significance to society.

“Team Players” had special meaning to me. In October, 1993, I had open heart surgery at St. Vincent’s with Dr. Taro Yokoyama and the team doing the honors. I’m glad I was unaware of all the procedures set forth in the article.
I do not know Ed Gillespie, the patient you mention, but having the same surname seemed ironic. My brother Tom also had Dr. Yokoyama for his cardiac surgery at St. Vincent’s. The Gillespie clan is all doing well, thanks to the real “Dream Team.”
