OXNARD : Salvation Army Seeks Toy Donations

Share

Salvation Army officials have appealed for toys in Oxnard and Port Hueneme, saying that 800 families with four to 10 children each have signed up for Christmas assistance, and they only have the financial means to assist 500.

“Last year we had 700 requests and couldn’t meet those,” said Randy Paton, regional spokesman for the charity.

“Particularly with children and toys, that’s a real tug on the heartstrings.”

Paton asked for help from both individuals and companies.

The toys can be dropped off at the “angel tree’ at the Esplanade or at the corps office at 138 W. Hill St., Oxnard. The office telephone number is 483-9235.

Paton added that all local Salvation Army offices need bell ringers. He said the cold, windy weather has made kettle workers reluctant to stay on the job and has resulted in a drop in donations.

While the charity prefers volunteers so donations go further, minimum-wage pay is available.
