Saddleback / South Beach : SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Council OKs Revised City Worker Contracts

Share

The City Council has approved contracts that trim some health benefits for two city employee unions to allow for pay raises for some employees.

The council last week approved the agreements with the San Juan Capistrano Management Employees Assn. and the San Juan Capistrano City Employees Assn. The two unions represent more than 70 employees and include every city worker except department heads.

The agreements were based on a compensation study done for the city. The study found that 19 of the city’s union employees made more than comparable employees in the private and public sectors.

Those employees’ salaries will be frozen this year, said Cynthia Pendleton, director of administrative services.

Pendleton said that the contracts will expire June 30, 1995, and that salary increases will be retroactive to Nov. 1.

The health benefits savings to pay for the salary increases will be about $100,000, Pendleton said.
