Share

Seven candidates have filed papers for two City Council seats and three for the city treasurer’s post in the March 7 municipal elections. City Clerk John L. Oliver, whose term also expires, is unopposed.

City Treasurer Alice E. DeLong, under attack for allegedly mistreating employees, will face two opponents in her bid for reelection. Ernie O’Dell, 51, the city’s Chamber of Commerce director, and Armondo Herrera, 51, a supervisor in DeLong’s office, plan to run for the $78,600-a-year post.

In District 3, the south-central portion of the city, Councilman Stevan Colin is barred from seeking reelection because of term limits. Four candidates will compete for his seat.

William N. Gaillard, a 42-year-old salesman, and Steve Bopp, a 46-year-old sales representative, both filed papers, as did Mike Gin, a 31-year-old engineer and business owner, and Frank Bostrom, an architect.

In District 5, the northernmost section of Redondo, City Councilwoman Marilyn White seeks a second term. She will face Kim Marie Lewis, a 34-year-old engineer, and Barry J. Brennan, a 27-year-old businessman.

Dec. 9 was the deadline for filing candidacy papers.
