The city is seeking applicants for the Planning Commission and Design Review Board.

One Planning Commission seat was vacated when voters elected then-Commissioner Paul Freeman to the City Council. Also, terms expire Feb. 1 for one alternate and three regular Design Review Board members.

The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding land use within Laguna Beach.

Commissioners spend at least four to six hours each week on city business, including attending meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. They are paid $60 monthly.

The Design Review Board also serves as the Board of Adjustment, considering requests for zoning code variances and coastal development permits.

Board members spend about 10 hours a week fulfilling their duties, including attending meetings most Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. They are paid $120 per month.

Applications are available at the city clerk’s office. They must be returned to the city by Jan. 3. The City Council will interview applicants and make their appointments Jan. 10.
