IHL Talks Are ‘Very Far Along’ on Third Hockey Team in L.A.

Hockey fans may have three area teams to choose from next season.
Fred Comrie, owner of the San Diego Gulls of the International Hockey League, said he is “very far along” in negotiations to move his team to the Sports Arena. And if that falls through, Pat Lynch, the Sports Arena’s general manager, said he will pursue another IHL tenant.
“We’re going to turn over every stone to bring in a team,” Lynch said. “We really think it can do well here.”
The newcomer would compete with the NHL’s Kings and Mighty Ducks, but its ticket prices would be far less. Prices in the IHL, a developmental league for the NHL, average about $11. NHL prices average more than $30.
The IHL expanded this season to Detroit, Chicago, Houston and Minnesota. It will add clubs in Orlando, Fla., and San Francisco next season.
