Woman Arrested on 3 Warrants Walks Out Back Door of Costa Mesa Jail
A 53-year-old woman escaped from the city jail early Saturday, about two hours after she was arrested on burglary warrants, authorities said.
Betty Jane Willis of Santa Ana slipped out a door in the back of the jail, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Alan Kent said.
“She walked through a door that was left ajar,” Kent said. “We are unable to locate her at this point.”
Willis was arrested about midnight at Bay Street and Newport Boulevard on charges of driving with a suspended license and providing false information, Kent said. Police also discovered that the woman had three warrants--two for burglary and one for narcotics paraphernalia, he said.
