DWP Bill Dispute
At age 76, I have just discovered the meaning of “you can’t fight City Hall.”
Our company has been in business in Los Angeles since 1923. For many years our electric bills have averaged $40,000 per month. Recently, we had a difference of opinion with the Department of Water and Power amounting to $3,300. We went to Small Claims Court to present ourcase.
It was our understanding that no attorneys are to represent either side in Small Claims Court; citizen against citizen, right? Wrong! We were in court on Dec. 5, and the DWP was a no-show. DWP merely sent a letter to the judge from the Los Angeles city attorney and that was enough to lose our case.
Thanks, Los Angeles. Perhaps we should have sued for millions.
