NEWBURY PARK : Arraignment Delayed for 2 Teen-Agers
Two teen-agers charged with firing at least 30 bullets into a Newbury Park home and injuring a pregnant woman made their first adult court appearance Wednesday and were ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
On Tuesday, a Superior Court judge had ordered Danny Duarte, 17, of Newbury Park and William Morris, 18, of Oxnard to be tried as adults in connection with the Oct. 18 incident.
Municipal Judge Vincent J. O’Neill postponed arraignment Wednesday for the two until Dec. 30. The teen-agers and a 16-year-old boy who is being tried in Juvenile Court are charged with shooting at an occupied dwelling, assault with a firearm and conspiracy, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kim G. Gibbons said.
The woman suffered minor injuries when her home was sprayed with gunfire in retaliation for an earlier drive-by attack. Gibbons said the defendants shot the wrong home. The victim has since given birth to a daughter, Gibbons said.
Duarte, Morris and the 16-year-old are being held at Juvenile Hall, Gibbons said. The two youths being tried as adults fired the bullets, while the third youth drove the car, he said.
