FULLERTON : City Attorney Will Retire at Year’s End

Share

City Atty. R.K. Fox said Wednesday he will retire Dec. 31.

In October, Fox told city employees and the City Council that he has lung cancer and would be undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments over the next few months.

At the time, he wrote a memo saying he planned to continue working until he retired on an unspecified date.

Fox has not been attending City Council meetings and has spent only a few days at work since he announced his illness.

Meanwhile, Robert Bower of the Ruttan & Tucker law firm has been taking Fox’s place.

Fox said his illness, which has affected his hearing, is not the reason he is retiring.

“It’s just time to go,” Fox, 60, said in a telephone interview from his home. “We’ve got a new City Council and they’re entitled to choose their own city attorney.”

The City Council has been meeting in closed sessions to discuss whether it should hire a permanent replacement for Fox or to contract the job.
