WEST HOLLYWOOD : City’s Gift to Shoppers: Free Holiday Parking

Share

There may be no free lunch, but the city is offering free parking over the Christmas holiday weekend.

West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land has announced that the city will not charge for parking at more than 1,600 meters throughout the city.

“According to our business community, these are some of the busiest shopping days,” Land said. “The free holiday parking program is a nice gesture to our residents and business owners.”

The free meter parking, from Friday through Monday, will cost the city about $50,000 in revenue, but the upturn in the local economy has made the program possible, Land said. The meters usually cost 25 cents for each 20 minutes.

The meters will be covered with festive red-and-white bags. Although no money is necessary in the meters, parking time limits will still be enforced, Land warned.

The City Council initiated the program to demonstrate its appreciation to tourists who frequent West Hollywood businesses during the holidays, Land said.
