Sepulveda Boulevard adjacent to the Veterans Hospital in Westwood is scheduled for a spring face lift.
The $292,123 project was announced this week by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
In a written release, Yaroslavsky said the road repairs will include constructing curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, three ramps, a bus pad, drainage and upgraded traffic signals. In addition, eight trees are to be planted along the project route.
The route is a three-quarter-mile stretch of Sepulveda between Ohio and Constitution avenues, an interior road on federal veterans agency property.
A key goal of the repairs is to make the area accessible to those who use wheelchairs or who have limited mobility.
“This work will increase safety, reduce maintenance costs and offer increased mobility for people with disabilities,” Yaroslavsky said.
The project is being funded by the county, although some of the cost may be absorbed by the federal government, Yaroslavsky said.
Work is expected to begin in April and take 40 working days to complete.
During that period, lanes on some streets may be reduced or closed to through traffic, but local access is to be maintained at all times.
