Meanwhile, traffic is expected to be hectic throughout the holiday weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP began a maximum enforcement period last night that will put 70% of its personnel on roads, looking for unsafe vehicles, road hazards and drunk drivers for the remainder of the weekend.

“We do expect a lot of traffic all weekend, since a lot of travelers either leave or go home,” CHP Officer Staci Morse said. “There are a lot of things going on all weekend.”
