CATHOLIC MASSES: Bishop Armando X. Ochoa, who heads the San Fernando Pastoral Region of the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese, will celebrate Christmas Mass at midnight tonight at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 18400 Kinzie St., Northridge.

The traditional midnight Masses will feature special music at many Catholic parishes. For example, Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Missa Brevis” will be sung by the choir at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church, 4601 Firmament Ave., Encino, following carol singing at 11:30 p.m.

ORGAN CONCERT: Stephen Bosworth will give an organ concert at 10 tonight preceding the 11 p.m. Solemn High Mass at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Catholic Church in Chatsworth, the second-oldest church building in the San Fernando Valley, after the San Fernando Mission.

Bosworth, an organist and Simi Valley businessman, donated the newly installed Rodgers digital organ to the small congregation.

The 91-year-old, wood-frame building is located in Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen St. A security guard at the cemetery gates will provide directions prior to the concert and service.

CANDLELIGHT SERVICES: Hundreds of Protestant churches will conduct Christmas Eve rites today in the San Fernando Valley area, ranging from informal, family-oriented services in the late afternoon and early evening to more formal candlelight services in later hours.

The Magnolia Park United Methodist Church, 2828 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, will hold a 5:30 p.m. service that will include carol singing and a candlelight segment. St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5619 Lindley Ave., Tarzana, will have two services, at 7 and 10 p.m., featuring a harp and trumpet in the musical program.

Christmas Eve services will be held at 6:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at The Church at Rocky Peak, 22601 Santa Susana Pass Rd., Chatsworth, with Pastor David W. Miller preaching.

An 11 p.m. candlelight service, including carol singing, will be held at Trinity Community Presbyterian Church, 11960 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood.

NEW POSITION: Marilyn Thomsen, director of public relations for the Glendale-based Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, has been named director of communications for Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, the nation’s largest nondenominational seminary.

Thomsen, who lives in Sunland, will start Jan. 3 as the spokeswoman for Fuller, a position that has been vacant for more than a year.
