RACING ROUNDUP : Birdonthewire Finally Hits Wire First in ’94

Birdonthewire, who won five races and nearly earned an Eclipse Award last year, got his first victory of 1994 Saturday at Calder Race Course in Miami.
Birdonthewire, ridden by Craig Perret, won by 5 1/4 lengths in the $100,000 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap, covering seven furlongs in 1:23 3/5.
Birdonthewire was even-money favorite despite not having won in seven starts this year.

Beg Borrow And Steal, a 30-1 shot, rallied to win the $51,725 Illinois Oaks by a head at Hawthorne Race Course in Stickney, Ill. Beg Borrow And Steal, ridden by Heriberto Rivera Jr., covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:46 2/5.

Mining Burrah, ridden by John Velazquez, led all the way in a three-length victory in the $75,000 Gravesend Handicap at Aqueduct.
