Drunk driving arrests over the Christmas weekend were down slightly from previous years, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.
During a maximum-enforcement period from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, 21 people in Ventura County were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the Highway Patrol reported.
During a similar period in 1992, there were 24 arrests, and in 1990, there were 43 arrests. Last year’s figures were not available Monday.
Accidents attributed to drunk drivers were also down this year, with only two minor accidents reported through Monday. During the holiday weekend in 1990 two people were killed in accidents involving alcohol.
