ALTADENA: Members of the sheriff’s bomb squad safely detonated a pipe bomb found Monday in a wash near a home. A man hiking about 5:10 p.m. found a tote bag, carried the bag to a friend’s nearby house in the 500 block of Villa Zanita Street and found what looked like a bomb. Investigators confirmed that it was a bomb and blew it up in a nearby open area.

He was shot at least twice in the upper body and was taken to a local hospital, sheriff’s deputies said. Investigators had no one in custody and did not know if the shooting was gang-related.
WEST COVINA: A 44-year-old Tennessee man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly firing several shotgun blasts into a state employment office and at passing cars. Frederick Kunz was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and shooting at a moving vehicle. The incident occurred about 7:30 a.m. Police said Kunz, who uses a wheelchair, apparently was disgruntled about not receiving disability benefits. Kunz had moved to California from Tennessee, and reportedly had an appointment for later that morning at the employment office.
