OXNARD : Library Computer to Receive Upgrade
- Share via
Book lovers take notice: The Oxnard Public Library is improving its computer system next week, and patrons will not be able to renew books or acquire library cards for several days.
Library services manager Linda Katsouleas said the upgrade will bolster the computer’s abilities. Users will be able to reserve books without help from staff, for instance.
The $12-million, 72,000-square-foot library has more than 250,000 books on its shelves, and an average of 2,000 patrons visit the building each day.
Katsouleas said library personnel will still be busy checking out books with paper and ink while the upgrade takes place from Jan. 3 to 8 and would be overburdened by the other duties usually handled by the computer.
“We’ll be doing it the old-fashioned way--on paper,” Katsouleas said.
However, she said library staff will make one exception: Those with overdue books should return them and pay the fines. The librarians will gladly process those by hand.
