COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Second-Half Rally Lifts SCC to Victory Over Graceland

Chris Kostoff and Chauncey Woolridge each scored 22 points as Southern California College edged Graceland, 98-91, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday in Costa Mesa.

SCC was down by five points at halftime, but outscored Graceland, 49-37, in the second half.

Kostoff also had 11 rebounds and Kevin Carlson scored 20 points for SCC (7-7).

In other nonconference men’s basketball:

Idaho State 73, Chapman 52--The Division I Bengals (7-1) used a 19-6 run in the second half to pull away from the Division III Panthers (6-4) in the Gossner Foods Classic in Logan, Utah. Chapman was led by Stefan Mumaw with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Adam Dzierzynski added 12 points for the Panthers.

Concordia 90, Malone College 71--Pharoh Jones scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Craig Martin had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Concordia (9-1). Martin made eight of 10 shots and all three of his three-point attempts.

In the UCSD women’s basketball Invitational:

Chapman 84, Elmira 66--Melody Earle scored 24 points to lead Chapman (5-3) in the first-round game at the University of San Diego. Earle also had eight rebounds and Monique Sweet added 10 points.

Martha Bolduc had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Elmira (2-6).

In nonconference women’s basketball games:

Concordia 96, Occidental 54--Concordia took a 53-27 halftime lead and never let up against visiting Occidental. Kara Stephens and Jennifer Zylstra had 13 points each to lead Concordia (7-5).

USC 84, Long Beach State 61--Tina Thompson made 10 of 12 free throws and scored 24 points to lead USC.

The Trojans (6-1) played tough defense and forced 40 turnovers by Long Beach State (2-4).
