ROSE BOWL / OREGON vs. PENN STATE, Monday

Share

Penn State kicker Brett Conway dedicates his kicks to Chuck Mize, his high school coach in Lilburn, Ga., who was slain during Conway’s senior year. “A lot of my decision to attend Penn State was based on what he thought,” Conway said. “He thought it was a good place for me, and I guess it’s safe to say he was proud that he had a player who went to play for Joe Paterno and Penn State.”

Mize never saw Conway kick for the Nittany Lions. He was stabbed to death by his 24-year-old son, Chip, in his suburban Atlanta home in May, 1993.

Conway made 10 of 12 field-goal attempts, plus 62 conversions for 92 points, second on the team to Ki-Jana Carter’s 138.
