Three people were injured in single-car accidents that occurred within hours of each other on separate Ventura County freeways, the California Highway Patrol reported Thursday.

Karl Coleman of Ventura was driving west on California 126 about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday when he veered onto the right shoulder west of Victoria Avenue and his pickup truck flipped several times, the CHP said.

Investigators said Coleman, 38, was thrown from the cab of the truck and suffered multiple injuries. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Thursday.

About two hours later, Sharon Ward of Palmdale was traveling south on California 23 in Thousand Oaks when she veered off the roadway onto the right shoulder, the CHP said.

Ward, 33, struck a light pole near the intersection of California 23 and Erbes Road, snapping the fixture, investigators said.

She was listed in serious condition at Los Robles Regional Medical Center on Thursday. Her passenger, 6-year-old Brandon Ward of Palmdale, was treated for his injuries and released, hospital officials said.

The causes of both crashes are still under investigation.
