Laguna Hills OKs 5 More Stop Signs at Intersections

Share

The City Council has approved placing stop signs at five more city intersections, bringing the total of stop signs installed since the city’s incorporation in 1991 to 39.

All of the stop signs approved earlier this month will be placed at “T” intersections where drivers have trouble deciding who has the right of way.

One stop sign will be placed on Appaloosa Place at Mustang Drive, even though no accidents have occurred there in the past three years and the number of cars does not warrant a stop sign, officials said.

City Engineer Ken Rosenfield recommended the stop sign to the council because residents have complained about drivers failing to yield. The council unanimously approved the traffic control measure this month.

The other side-street stop signs will be placed on Bridlewood Drive, Woodbluff Road and Devonshire Road where they each meet Vista Viejo, and on Devonshire Road at Nottingham Court. The council approved those signs in a 4-1 vote.

Councilwoman Melody Carruth voted against the signs, saying she felt the new signs may encourage drivers to speed along Vista Viejo.

Since July, 1992, 19 intersections have received multidirectional stop signs, and another 20 side-street signs have been installed, Rosenfield said.
