COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Penberthy Does It All for Master’s, 99-74

Mike Penberthy had a career night as The Master’s College won its third straight game, 99-74, over visiting Nebraska Wesleyan.

Penberthy, a sophomore guard, scored 29 points and had 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Penberthy also had five steals and blocked a shot.

Junior forward James Mosley added 28 points and four assists for the Mustangs, who improved to 10-3.

Four Master’s players scored in double figures.

Center Leo Gorauskas finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Reserve Rogerio Soares added 10 points and also had four steals.

Mark Specht scored a team-high 16 points for Nebraska Wesleyan.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Canyons 68, Cypress 66--Melissa Dunkerly made two free throws with five seconds left to give the Cougars the Fullerton tournament championship.

Cypress had a chance to win the game but Susan Werdel’s three-point shot was blocked by Kerrie Garland as time expired.

Carlisa Hamagaki’s layup off a steal helped Canyons (16-3) erase a five-point deficit in the final minute.

The Cougars’ Kyetra Brown, who scored 17 points and had six assists, was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Stephanie Labor added 15 points and Hamagaki 14 for Canyons.

Sarah Works scored 21 points for Cypress (14-6).

Concordia 84, The Master’s 60--Stephanie Schilke and Allison Nyland each scored 19 points for host Concordia in a nonconference game.

Deborah Prociw scored 20 points for Master’s.

Jodi Aqueda added 19 points and seven steals for Master’s.
