Woman, 52, Dies in Jail Cell : Crime: Booked on a drug charge, she is found unconscious in her bunk by fellow inmates.
A 52-year-old inmate was found dead in her jail cell Sunday morning, just three days after she had been arrested on a drug charge, Los Angeles police said.
The woman’s cause of death is still under investigation, but police said there were no obvious signs of trauma. Authorities declined to identify her Sunday because relatives had not been notified.
She was arrested Thursday, booked on a charge of possession of narcotics Friday and placed in a Van Nuys Jail cell with 23 other women, police said.
She was last seen alive at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. Within an hour, she was found unconscious in her bunk by other inmates.
The coroner’s office is expected to rule on the cause of death.
