COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Williams Leads UC Irvine Past Cal State Fullerton

Jinelle Williams scored 18 points as UC Irvine opened Big West Conference play with an 82-73 overtime victory over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday night at Fullerton.

Williams made eight of 14 shots and had eight rebounds before fouling out. Michelle Kahler scored 17 points and had four assists for Irvine (4-4, 1-0).

Fullerton, which shot 27% in the first half and trailed, 33-28, at halftime, rallied in the second half.

Shayla Bradshaw led the Titans (3-5, 0-1) with 27 points, but made only eight of 30 field-goal attempts. Koko Lahanas added 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Allah-Mi Basheer added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Irvine.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Chapman 77, Dickinson 71--Melody Earle scored 23 points and Stephanie VerSteeg added 12 points and seven assists for host Chapman.

Chapman shot 43% for the game and led, 39-36, at halftime.

Alana Conyers had 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for the Panthers.

Annie Guzek led Dickinson with 15 points and seven rebounds. Cindy Porta scored 14 points and had nine rebounds. Roe Falcone added 13 points, including three three-pointers.

The game was delayed 45 minutes because poor weather delayed the arrival of the teams and referees.
