Conservancy Should Take a Look at the Map

Share

Your Dec. 18 editorial regarding the major stretch made by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in its purchase at Wilson Canyon, north of Sylmar, was right on the money. “Conservancy Should Keep Its Focus Local” is a perfect example of the headline’s telling all.

At a time when the conservancy is pleading poverty on the matter of buying Soka’s Gillette Ranch property and at a time when the conservancy claims it must sell off some of the properties it already owns, just to buy Soka, it turns around and buys land at Wilson Canyon for $3.9 million: strange behavior and strange arithmetic. What does a property in Sylmar have to do with the Santa Monica Mountains? Sounds to me as though it paid a political debt. What is this? Today L.A. County, tomorrow the world?
