Man Found Dead in Motel by Fumigation Worker

A fumigation company employee making his way through the Vagabond Inn on Saturday discovered the body of a 37-year-old man on the motel’s second floor, police said.

The dead man, believed to be a transient, has not yet been identified, said Sgt. Tom Murrell of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division.

Police do not suspect foul play, Murrell said, and are speculating that the man went into the recently gassed building--which had been draped with an orange and blue fumigation tent--to escape the rain.

Murrell said it was unclear how long the body had been inside the inn in the 20000 block of Ventura Boulevard. It was discovered just before 11 a.m., Murrell said, adding that police were waiting for the results of an autopsy.
