COSTA MESA : Planning Commission to Study 2 Sign Plans
The Planning Commission will discuss two proposed sign ordinances at a public hearing at 6:30 tonight.
One is a newly drafted ordinance based on a model developed by the National Electric Sign Assn., and the other is an amended version of the city’s current ordinance.
According to Mike Robinson, the city’s principal planner, the association’s language contains fewer restrictions.
“In terms of the number of signs and their height and area, the ordinance we’re recommending has more restrictions and would reduce clutter,” Robinson said of the city’s proposed ordinance, which the planning staff has endorsed.
Robinson said the Planning Commission will consider both proposed ordinances after hearing from the public and might combine the two. He said the commission will ultimately make a recommendation to the City Council for adoption.
“But it (the ordinance) could be continued, depending on the amount of controversy,” he said.
