WOOF: The terrier who steals the show on the hit NBC sitcom “Frasier” will soon be getting the red-carpet treatment in Orange County. Eddie has been named grand marshal of the second annual Wag-A-Thon fund-raiser for the Animal Relief Foundation in Dana Point. . . . The top dog will be whisked to the Feb. 18 event in a limousine. “We actually have to have security for him,” says event chairwoman Mary Obenberger.

RUNNING PIZZA: Not everyone is complaining about this week’s rainy weather. Pizza deliverers say it has increased business. . . . “People don’t want to go out in the rain,” explains Anthony Ybarra, a manager at Trabuco Hills Pizza Hut in Mission Viejo, which, like other establishments of its kind, has experienced a 50% increase in home deliveries during the recent downpours. “It’s more convenient for the pizza to be delivered; the drivers are working extra hard.”

WORLD POLITICS: Dick Cheney’s recent decision not to run for President isn’t keeping him from crisscrossing the country to make speeches. The former secretary of defense will visit Irvine Jan. 17 to discuss foreign policy in front of business people at the Industrial League of Orange County’s 24th Annual Dinner Meeting. Even without a race for the presidency, such speech-making has its rewards. “Over $10,000” is all that league President Todd Nicholson would say of Cheney’s fee.

BELOW MARKET: Developer Nelson Chung knows his market. So when he went to the Placentia City Council last week for permission to build 350 condos, he was ready to defend the projected $95,000 to $180,000 price per unit. . . . What Chung didn’t expect was Councilman Norman Z. Eckenrode’s comment that similar condos had recently sold like hot cakes--for $230,000! “I have a tendency to be very conservative,” Chung said defensively. “If the market allows, I will raise the prices. Believe me.”
