A Sylmar father and son were killed when their car was struck by an auto that sped through a red light, authorities said.

Victor Rodriquez Sr., 48, and his son Victor Rodriquez Jr., 28, were making a left turn at the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Lassen Street at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday night when Thomas Harns, 30, who was driving west at about 60 m.p.h., ran a red light and slammed into the Rodriguez car, Los Angeles Police Detective Robert Uber said.

The Rodriquezes’ car was sent skidding 100 feet by the impact, police said.

Rodriguez Sr., the driver, died at the scene. His son died of injuries at 10:30 p.m. at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, said Police Officer Patrick Ramsey. Both had been wearing seat belts.

Police said Harns, who told officers that he was a transient, was driving a car stolen in a robbery early Tuesday in Glendale.

Harns was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and was listed in serious condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with a broken hip, ankle and major facial injuries, Uber said.

He was being held in lieu of $110,000 bail, police said.
