A jury was seated Thursday in the murder trial of a 19-year-old Port Hueneme man accused of fatally shooting a Simi Valley man and his dog at the Middle Lions Campground last winter.

Timothy Chrestman is charged with shooting 24-year-old Andy Lee Anderson and Anderson’s dog March 4 in the mountains above Ojai. Prosecutors say the defendant committed the crime to steal the victim’s pickup truck.

Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. ordered opening statements to begin Tuesday. The trial is expected to last several weeks, lawyers said.

Chrestman shot Anderson as the victim stood next to his truck, preparing to drive home after a half-day fishing trip, according to investigators. Authorities found Anderson’s truck abandoned in West Hollywood two days later. They say Chrestman’s wallet was on the seat.
