Reserve Center Amos Dismissed From Cal State Fullerton Team

Share

Fred Amos, a senior reserve center, has been dismissed from the Cal State Fullerton basketball team for a violation of team rules.

Coach Bob Hawking declined to be more specific about the circumstances that led to Amos’ departure. But a source close to the team said Amos, who played at Rancho Santiago, had been unhappy with the amount of playing time and his role on the team. He averaged 13.8 minutes for the season. Over the last six games, however, he had been averaging less than 10 minutes. In the first five games, he averaged about 20 minutes.

Amos, a non-scholarship player, backed up Winston Peterson. Amos’ best effort of the season was nine points in the second game against Santa Clara. He played only four minutes and scored three points in Saturday night’s loss to Utah State. He averaged 4.5 points.

Reserve forward DeVaughn Wright, who has been ill with a partial intestinal blockage, was discharged from the hospital Sunday and was sitting on the bench with the team during Monday night’s game but was not suited up.
