SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who sexually molested two girls in Walnut last week.

The victims, ages 6 and 10, were molested in their homes in the Snow Creek area in separate incidents early Thursday and Friday.

Both girls were molested in their upstairs bedrooms after the man broke into their homes, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Matthew C. Rodriguez.

Investigators believe the suspect is familiar with the area and had carefully planned his entry and escape at each house, Rodriguez said.

The suspect is described as a white or Asian man, 30 to 50 years old. He is 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He has dark hair, a “scruffy” mustache and a gray goatee.

He was wearing dark clothing, boots and a ski mask or dark cloth wrapped around his head, Rodriguez said.

The victims also told detectives that their assailant had a strong body odor. Teri Roberts, an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department child abuse investigator, said she is pursuing several leads in the case. She has received several calls from area residents who think they might have seen the suspect, she said.

Anyone with information can call Roberts at (818) 858-8766 or the Walnut Sheriff’s station at (909) 595-2264.
