WHITTIER : Three Candidates Seek to Join School Board

Share

Three candidates, including a teacher and a former school board member, are vying for a vacant seat on the Whittier City school board in a special election April 11.

Nelda Fodor, who was appointed last year to replace a departing board member but had to step down after a citizens’ group forced the special election, is seeking to regain her seat. Also running are elementary school teacher Ted Saulino and Liam D. Cowan, an assistant principal at a state juvenile detention center in Norwalk. The filing deadline was Friday.

The winner will serve the remainder of the term of Rosaura A. Aguerrebere, who left the district. The seat will be on the ballot in 1997.

The board initially appointed Fodor, a college library clerk, but a citizens’ group led by Saulino collected enough petition signatures to force the special election. School officials said the election could cost the district more than $100,000.
