ROAD KILLS: OK--so Cal State Northridge’s men’s basketball team has a 3-10 record. But gee--the referees haven’t been helping much. . . . The team hasn’t won a road game all season, prompting some to question the barrage of free throws being granted to the opposing team, above. Northridge is not alone. Other lower-echelon college coaches criticize a pay system that rewards officials who please the big guys: a ref for the powerful Western Athletic Conference collects $500 a game, while one in CSUN’s American West Conference nets only $275.
