3 of 9 Pups Buried Alive by Owner Die
Three of nine newborn Rottweiler puppies rescued by their mother a day after the dogs’ owner buried them alive have died.
“We tried everything. They were hand-fed, given fluids and heating pads. . . , “ Sherry Schlueter of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Animal Abuse Unit said Thursday.
Schlueter said the animal abuse unit had been flooded with calls from England to Alaska, some from people offering to adopt and others urging charges to be pressed against the owner.
A neighbor called police after seeing mother Sheba paw through the dirt to get her puppies back.
Owner Robert Homrighous, 41 may face nine or 10 aggravated animal abuse charges. A decision is expected today. The remaining six puppies were recovering well.
