A 1-year-old girl, hospitalized at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, on Sunday became the fourth person to die following a two-car crash in Winnetka that also injured 10 people, authorities said.

Lorena Castaneda of Northridge was pronounced dead about 3:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Sgt. Fred Meck said.

All those killed in the Saturday afternoon crash were in a Dodge Caravan headed west on Saticoy Street, en route to a wedding in Canoga Park, authorities said. The van, which contained 13 people, was struck by a white Toyota at Saticoy and Mason Avenue, police said.

The three others killed in the accident were identified as Arcelia Martinez-Castaneda, 17; Beatriz Ornellas, 20, and Diana Perez, 4, said Nils Linder, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. All were residents of Northridge, police spokesman Norman Nagengast said.

Those injured in the crash were taken to hospitals in the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood and Westwood, police said.

Two children, Jorge Luis Castaneda, 10 months, and Ysella Ornellas, 4, were taken to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, where they were listed in good condition, said Tim Bradley, a hospital spokesman. Both children are Northridge residents.

Jorge’s mother, Maguerite Castaneda, 26, was released Saturday evening from West Hills Regional Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. She was expected to pick up her son from Childrens Hospital on Sunday, Bradley said.

Trinidad Martinez, 62, and Luisa Martinez, 37, both of Northridge, were also treated at the West Hills hospital and released late Saturday, officials said.

Blanca and Gabriela Martinez, ages 9 and 10, were taken to UCLA Medical Center, where they were treated and released late Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police identified the driver of the white Toyota as Guadalupe Holguin, 54, of Mission Hills. Holguin was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

No one has been charged in the accident, and police are still conducting an investigation into the crash and sorting through conflicting witness statements, Nagengast said.
