VENTURA : Forum to Focus on Public Use of Airport

Share

The Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce will hold an informational forum Monday on the advantages of allowing commercial uses at the airport at Point Mugu.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Meeting Room at Ventura City Hall. It will feature Tim Merwin, the chief aviation analyst for the Southern California Assn. of Governments, and County Supervisor John Flynn.

Ventura, along with Port Hueneme, Oxnard and Thousand Oaks, has agreed to join a joint powers authority to manage the joint military and civilian use of the airport.

Consultants’ reports, prepared to determine how profitable civilian use of the airfield could be, vary widely. One study released in September said the airfield would handle 2.5 million commercial passengers annually by the year 2010. Other reports, however, estimate that only 500,000 to 1.5 million commercial passengers would use the airfield annually.
