Brea

City Council special meeting

When: Tuesday, 5 p.m.

Where: Executive Conference Room, Brea Civic & Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle

What: The council will meet in closed session to discuss litigation regarding the county bankruptcy. At 6:15 p.m. or later, it will go to an open session to discuss the fate of the Brea Community Center. Start of construction on the $7-million center has been on hold in response to the countywide financial crisis. Brea had $9 million in the county investment pool when bankruptcy was filed Dec. 6.

La Palma

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.

Where: City Hall, 7822 Walker St.

What: Special council meeting will be held to consider reaffirming city’s membership in new Joint Powers Authority (JPA) for the Orange County Fire Department. The JPA is a new governing board for the Fire Department. It’s composed of representatives of county government and the cities it serves. In a separate action, the council is also scheduled to discuss county’s bankruptcy and to consider a resolution demanding full return of city money invested in the county pool.

Orange

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 4 p.m.

Where: Weimer Room, Civic Center Plaza, 300 E. Chapman Ave.

What: Mayor Joanne Coontz has called for a workshop to review goals and objectives of the City Council for the coming year. Members will meet with the city manager and other department heads to discuss policies the city should target. “The budget is an ongoing instrument, and we want to make sure the goals of the budget are met,” Coontz said. She noted that the council traditionally held these workshops but dropped them several years ago.

La Habra

City Council meeting

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Where: City Hall, 201 E. La Habra Blvd.

What: Council will consider adopting a resolution demanding that the Orange County Board of Supervisors return all city money in the failed county pool.
