COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Concordia Women Win Despite Poor Shooting

Despite shooting only 38 percent from the field and 47 percent from the line, Concordia defeated Southern California College 75-67 in Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball.

The Eagles (14-9, 4-2) were led Kara Stephens and Audre Moss, who each scored 12 points. Stephens added eight rebounds and five assists and Moss had two three-pointers.

Heather Woodruff had 16 rebounds and a game-high 18 points for Southern California (12-9, 4-2). The Vanguards also outrebounded Concordia, 51-43.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Long Beach State 97, Cal State Fullerton 71--The 49ers went on an 18-0 run at the end of the first half to put away the Titans. Melissa Gower scored 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for Long Beach State (9-8, 6-3) and Koko Lahanas had 32 for Cal State Fullerton (7-9, 4-5).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Chapman 82, Pomona-Pitzer 69--Melody Earle scored 21 points and had seven assists for visiting Chapman (11-7). Melissa Starr added 14 and Monique Sweet had 12. Kristin McCowen scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds and three blocks for Pomona-Pitzer (13-6).

In California Coastal Conference men’s basketball:

Pacific Conference 138, La Sierra 77--Charles Ross scored 30 points and Chuck Henderson 22 for Pacific Christian (20-10, 9-0), which led, 78-26, at the half.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Concordia 76, Southern California College 65--Pharoah Jones had 21 points and Craig Martin added 18 for Concordia (20-4). Chauncey Woolridge had 16 points for SCC (12-12).
