No matter what happens the rest of Larry The Legend’s career, he was a bargain for owner-trainer Craig Lewis.

Purchased for $2,500 when Photini Jaffe, a longtime client of Lewis, was forced to declare bankruptcy, the son of Local Talent looks like one of California’s more promising 3-year-olds.

Seventeen days after a maiden victory, Larry The Legend toyed with four rivals in the $79,725 Santa Catalina Stakes Wednesday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, the 2-5 favorite set slow fractions (24 1/5, 48 3/5 and 1:13 1/5) in winning by five lengths in 1:42 4/5 for the 1 1/16 miles.

After a two-day carryover in the Pick Six, form prevailed Wednesday and there were 435 perfect tickets worth $3,639.60 each.

The carryover pool was $551,971 and another $2,157,166 was bet Wednesday.

Besides Larry The Legend, there was one other odds-on winner (Battle Wise in the seventh) and the highest price of the day was Wooden Ticket, who paid $10.80 in the sixth.
