PACIFIC 10 CONFERENCE ROUNDUP : Burton Gets Hot, ASU Wins

Arizona State guard Isaac Burton wasn’t worried when he missed three of his first five shots Saturday at Tempe, Ariz.

As with most streak shooters, Burton, from L.A.’s Washington High, knew it was a matter of time before he would start scoring.

His time came in the second half. Burton scored 14 of his game-high 19 points after halftime as 14th-ranked Arizona State defeated 15th-ranked Stanford, 79-70, in a Pacific 10 Conference game.

Stanford (15-5, 6-5), which lost its sixth in a row at Tempe, pulled to 64-61 on Andy Poppink’s layup with 3:17 remaining. But Burton made his third three-point shot to secure the fifth-consecutive victory for the Sun Devils (18-5, 8-3).

No. 22 Oregon 107, Oregon State 86--Kenya Wilkins scored 18 points and Henry Madden 16 as the Ducks routed the Beavers at Eugene. The 107 points were the most for Oregon in a Pac-10 game and its most since scoring 116 against Villanova in the 1974-75 season.

Oregon (14-5, 6-4) gained a 24-14 lead, led by 15 at halftime and by as many as 26 in the second half. Oregon State (6-13, 3-7) was never closer than 14 points in the second half.

Oregon shot 62.5% from the field and had six players in double figures. Jeff Potter scored 13, all in the first half, Darryl Parker 12, Orlando Williams 11 and Jamal Lawrence 10.

Brent Barry led the Beavers with 17 points. Vladimir Heredia and Stephane Brown scored 13 apiece. Oregon State’s Mustapha Hoff, the No. 3 scorer in the Pac-10, was held to a season-low 10 points.
