Share

Although the Southern Utah men’s basketball team was playing without its top player, the Thunderbirds routed Cal State Northridge, 77-53, in an American West Conference game Saturday night at Cedar City, Utah.

Southern Utah’s 6-foot-8 center Sean Allen, who leads the conference with a 16-point average, was benched for disciplinary reasons.

The first-place Thunderbirds (11-10, 2-0) didn’t need him.

“They played without their best player and as a group they rose up high and played with great intensity, and we just came out there almost blase,” Northridge Coach Pete Cassidy said.
