THOUSAND OAKS : City Office Space Urged for Beilenson

Share

Two Thousand Oaks City Council members are recommending that Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson be allowed free use of city office space once a week.

Citing budget cutbacks and the desire to save taxpayers money, Beilenson recently closed his Thousand Oaks field office.

“Having a meeting room available here at the Civic Arts Plaza would allow direct access to the congressman and / or his staff,” council members Andrew P. Fox and Judy Lazar wrote in their recommendation. The two meet as the finance advisory committee of the City Council.

The full council is scheduled to consider the issue at its Tuesday night meeting. If the idea is approved, Beilenson would be given access to the Park Room one morning each week.

Beilenson has said that closing his Thousand Oaks office will save the federal government $25,000 a year in rent and maintenance.

About $75,000 a year will also be saved after two of Beilenson’s full-time staff positions are eliminated and a third is reduced to part-time this year, spokeswoman Kaye Davis said.

She also said Beilenson hopes to find a rent-free office in the Conejo Valley when one of his remaining workers is assigned there full-time. Beilenson still maintains his Woodland Hills office.
