Home was no help for No. 4 Kentucky and No. 5 Massachusetts, both of whom were beaten Tuesday night.

UMass carried a 41-game on-campus winning streak--the nation’s longest--into its Atlantic 10 game against George Washington.

George Washington, 16-9 overall and 9-4 in the Atlantic-10, beat the Minutemen, 80-78, 10 days after beating them in Washington, 78-75.

Alexander Koul scored 20 points, but he and Nimbo Hammons--who had 16--fouled out, leaving their teammates to turn back a UMass rally and Minutemen Coach John Calipari concerned.

“My fear is that the losses don’t hurt as bad as they used to,” he said of his players’ reactions. “A loss should tear you apart. Today, I don’t think that was the case.”

No. 23 Mississippi State 76, No. 4 Kentucky 71--Marcus Grant scored a career-high 23 points in a Southeastern Conference victory for the Bulldogs, their first in 17 games in Rupp Arena.

Kentucky (17-4, 9-2) had won 12 in a row at home and was 10-0 this season. The plight of Mississippi State (16-5, 8-3) in Lexington predates Rupp Arena.

No. 1 Connecticut 91, Georgetown 85--The Huskies (20-1, 13-0) survived a trip to the Washington area, where previous No. 1s Massachusetts and North Carolina had lost in the last 10 days.

Ray Allen scored 26 points in the Big East game for UConn, which dealt Georgetown (14-7, 7-6) its fourth loss in a row.

No. 3 Kansas 91, Nebraska 68--Raef LaFrentz scored 16 points for the Jayhawks (19-3, 8-2) in a Big Eight game at Nebraska (16-8, 3-6).

No. 15 Villanova 89, No. 11 Syracuse 87--Chuck Kornegay scored six points in overtime, two on a layup with 8.7 seconds left that gave the Wildcats (18-5, 11-2) a Big East victory over the Orangemen (17-5, 10-3) at home.
